That game could have been interesting except for VMI being pretty inept early against that press. It will be almost impossible for Sammy to win a SOCON tournament with that exhausting style for three days.
Depends on their depth. A team going 9-11 deep with some quality can keep up a fast paced style the entire tourney. A 6-8 deep team would struggle. Also can depend on whether they get a blowout game or two before the final. The opponent in the final will have their depth and conditioning tested in the earlier rounds too. Superior depth can be the difference in the tournament. When we lost to Davidson in the 2002 finals we had guys cramping from fatigue in the second half. They had a sub come in and score 22 for the difference in the game.

Yep, big SoCon game. It will be interesting to see if Samford gets away with their mauling full court press tactics away from home. They were hip checking, shoving and hacking the VMI players like crazy with no calls.

Yep they have yet to really make an impact in Asheville despite their gaudy, beating up on terrible teams nonconference records

Samford wins, but they both looked pretty darn good to me…
yes SD agrees. They both started out like gang busters but then fizz out IMHO.

If Dins bust the press and then make them round around in the half court with Dins passing SD likes the chances vs sammy

The game tonight was about the starters and the stars. Achor Achor, the 6'9" post for Samford averaged about 6 ppg and 4 rebs. in 14 mpg as a freshman last year but has really blossomed this year. He scored 35 points and had 10 rebounds tonight. He is tough inside but also hitting 50% of his threes this year too.Vontarious Woolbright, 6'6 guard for WCU had 23 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists tonight.

Neither team got much from their bench. Samford got three total points from the 6 guys who came off the bench and WCU got 2 points from their subs. Most of the team stats were even. Samford shot a little better from the three point line - just enough for the 4 point margin of victory. WCU had a scoreless streak of about 5 minutes in the first half that let Samford take a lead that they never gave up, although WCU cut the lead to 1 with 10 seconds left in the game.

No teal surprises tonight in other games:
WC at home by 2 over ET
UNCG at home by 6 over Citadel
UTC by 12 at Mercer
BTW Sammy has the longest winning streak in the country at 16 games. They come to town a week from tonight and will probably be riding a 17 game streak. They have MU at home Saturday.

Look at their schedule. Loaded with smaller schools you’ve never heard of. No comparison to Furman’s schedule.

As usual. That's how they had an 11 game win streak last year. Hard for them to win three days straight in the tournament playing like they do

Interesting... the SOCON is back in the top half of conference rankings after last year, when they were ranked 23rd.
The three at the top (Samford, WCU, UNCG) are all having really good seasons and only one (VMI) is having a terrible season..... but it is a really terrible season.

In the past I've seen more noteworthy OOC victories, can't say that I remember seeing many this year. The top guys had fairly easy OOC schedules.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
