ESPN says 25% chance. I disagree.
No kidding. Lazy analysis (they prolly looked at KenPom and moved on). Figure we beat them soundly at home, then came within a whisker at their place. Plus their style of play is exhausting with no day’s rest. We’ve got a better than even shot.
It's an interesting view on "Bucky Ball."
Samford had early exits from the tournament in 2023 and 2022 despite being the no worse than 3 seed. Their basketball team, like their football team, prefers this frenetic pace that, at times, can work as a disadvantage. I suspect one of the disadvantages to their style can show up in tournaments, where you have to play multiple games in multiple days.
Samford knows Furman can beat them. They know we handled them easily in Greenville. They know we had them on the ropes in their building. They know we have an experienced tournament team that seems to get better with pressure. They know we just shut down the SoCon's best scorer last night.
Their coaches, fans, and players will never say this, but I suspect that Furman is the last team Samford wanted to face in this tournament.
